词根是 rhe，最早源自拉丁语的 rhes（修辞）。英语在 rhe 后加后缀 –or 表示 “修辞学者/修饰学教师”；又在 rhetor 基础上再加后缀 –ic 变成 rhetoric，表示 “修辞学” 或 “花言巧语”。
